Everyone thinks it's the swine flu...but I've no clue.

*Need something warm and uplifting on this dreary October night? Try out this rare pair fic. I'll admit fluff is not my usual fare, and it's a rare fic that makes me want a happy ending... but this one does! Cormac is presented here brilliantly: maturer and wiser since his schoolboy days, yet still a tad arrogant and obnoxious [as he should be]. He's honestly the character I was most enamored with, although her Draco is lovely, too [and fucking scorching with his golden curls and tight tummy].

There are some very refreshing elements that you don't see as much as you should in fic [the use of canon charms, Hermione's body not being described as overly womanly/luscious, Hermione not getting over Ron in a blink of an eye, and a touching scene with emotional!Hermione because the girl has her crying jags in canon, yo]. Treeson also has a wicked sense of humor, and she had me LULZING -- esp with a certain wizard's disdain for Muggle contraptions ;) ! Speaking of that happy ending, it's very touching and gently done.

Go with a warm cup of cocoa or a glass of wine and savor! :)

Summary: On the day of Snape's return to Hogwarts as Headmaster, he settles some old scores and makes some offerings.

*This is another one of those fics that has been recced EVERYWHERE by all the people I trust most with that sort of thing. I'll be honest, as I was in leaving my review, that a part of me didn't really want to read or like this (as Snape/Mc G seems about the farthest from Snape/Schoolgirl!) ... but right from the get-go the author pulls the reader in and Doesn't Let Go.

It's a psychological gut!punch of sheer epic beauty that I simply cannot get across with my own tawdry words. Every character in the fic is layered and full of distinct personality. The relationships and situations presented are handled with skill and are freaking heartbreaking as all else. It's dark-fic without the gore, and feels like being stabbed with a velvet covered knife. The smut, which I admit I feared most, is scorching -- just enough detail to have you reeling, and the scary-to-me fact that Mc G is 30 years Snape's senior just doesn't matter while reading. This can be attributed to the detail being placed more prominently in other things: it's not pushing a ship and feels natural, their canon rivalry (so awesome) seeps slowly into something sexual (there's a hint of BDSM and a dash of dub-con, but it's subtle), and the fact that the characters care about one another but both know life is a far cry from a fairytale/no happy ever after...

Speaking of NANO, I've signed up for mini_nanowrimo, which is the mini version :) You only have to write, minimum, 100 words a day every day for the month of November. (You also must sign up before the 30th of October -- so hurry on over and check it out!!) Since I've been doing so terribly with 5_for_five (500 words, for 5 days a week) I thought 'Hey, why not try this one and see if it helps?". [Anything to spur the muse, yeah?]

I did write 1200 words last night... after not writing for at least TWO WEEKS [*horrified gasp*]... So I've been feeling pretty happy that at least Billy-the-lemur-muse™ hasn't completely died fic-wise. I also spent a few hours on this sketch that Is Just Not Turning Out --- which made me have a sad, but what can you do*?

A] This piece = hardest and longest I’ve ever worked on something art-wise. It’s Hard to imitate a style you’ve never tried – and I got thisclose to breaking down into frenzied tears when things weren’t going My Way. That being said, I’m really really pleased with how it turned out. Overall I think it’s pretty close to what I was aiming for…

B] The aim being Japanese doujinshi! I wanted this to look like a page out of one; oh, all the hours I had to spend staring at smutty doujin (for science!) … Credit especially to **Honey Deep 5 by brilliant Shigunyan. This is in essence a tribute to his work, and the title is a play on the Honey Deep series.

I purposely smudged a few stylistic things such as: Anime!Snape now has The Nose, Granger’s hair is now bushier, Snape’s is greasier, and I’ve aged Granger up a tad (if you aren’t familiar with doujin, it’s common for anime characters to look much younger than they would otherwise).

C] There seems like there should be a third note. *hums* I’ll just go random: ask Elle before using this for anything (icons, etc). Easter egg: 8 = my favorite #; Spade = my favorite suit. And lastly, this was almost titled: ‘Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon’, or, ‘All Ur Base Are Belong to Us’ for the LULZYLULZ.

Romilda Vane is wonderfully depicted [we srsly do not see enough of her] -- and her spitfire passion turned fanaticism is so fucking well played. Lucius is spot on, too. This is not-shippy gen at its finest :)

Hey everyone,

There have been some large changes in my life over the last six or so months… I’ve been battling with some personal issues for quite some time, and I must thank everyone who has supported/and or put up with me in the past and in the present. Fortunately, I had a few big wake-up calls—unfortunately all painful—that led me to change my real life and online behavior.

This journal was always supposed to be a fun outlet for appreciating fandom and non-reality. I’ve made huge strides to get it back to exactly that, which is why you are seeing fewer posts with any sort of personal life mentions and more of my work, recs of other people’s work, etc.

(I’m doing really well, by the way --- things have not been this stable for me in years.)

However, all of this cleaning up equals a lot of growing pains. I am at a point now where I want to focus on what brings me the most joy, what spurs the muse, and friendships with people who share like interests (all in relation to fandom). I’ve been in a stagnated slump for the longest time and am working on a fresh new start…

Therefore, if I’ve de-friended your journal it’s only because our interests have diverged too much along the way. I hate thinking that this will offend or hurt anyone… and I’m deeply sorry if that’s so. I just need to step back and realign. Feel free to remove me, too – although anyone is welcome to stay for fandom stuff, etc. (And this goes for everyone; if you’re here and don’t know why, or would rather not be, now would be a great time to bid farewell.) No hard feelings.

I’m screening all comments to this post so that anyone who wants to privately speak their piece can do so.
